The perfect mix of hiking and climbing

Via ferrata are iron routes built on mountains. The route is usually well marked with a permanently installed steel cable. It’s a source of great adventure. Fixed steel pegs and ladders are used in places that are too steep or rock faces that lacks sufficient structure. In addition to normal via ferrata equipment, climbers need the right footwear.

    johannes-krause_8736

“Taking on a via ferrata for the very first time was a completely new, amazing and great experience for me. When it comes to the equipment you need, you realise pretty quickly just how important the right footwear is.”

Johannes | LOWA Key account manager Germany

    • Generalist
As a rule of thumb, a good via ferrata boot is a generalist. After all, the route covers not just steps carved into rock and ladders, but also classic mountain trails, meadows and hiking paths.

    • Torsional stability
Climbers who are taking long tours or have to cover difficult passages need secure footing. This is why via ferrata boots offer exceptional torsional stability and give wearers firm footing even when they are carrying a full load.

VIBRAM® ALP TRAC® NUMEN Precision climbing

The CADIN II GTX MID has a CLIMBING ZONE. This is a flat component in the front sole area that facilitates easy climbs.

The performance sole VIBRAM® ALP TRAC® NUMEN is designed especially for alpine conditions. The large “climbing zone” on the sole tip enables wearers to move precisely as they manoeuvre their way up sheer rock faces. The stud arrangement ensures that any dirt that accumulates in the sole of the footwear will be shaken loose while the boot wearer is walking.

GORE-TEX Guaranteed weather protection

Guaranteed weather protection, even in pouring rain and heavy snow: The CADIN II GTX MID is equipped with a GORE-TEX membrane. The innovative technology delivers optimal waterproof protection and breathability.

  • Permanently waterproof
The membrane provides reliable waterproof protection. No matter what sort of adventure you may be planning, you can count on GORE-TEX technology to keep your feet pleasantly dry.

  • High breathability
Designed with optimal breathability in mind, GORE-TEX shoes provide pleasant comfort even during intense activities. Water cannot penetrate the footwear, and moisture produced inside the shoe escapes through billions of pores in the GORE-TEX membrane.

  • Windproof
The GORE-TEX membrane dependably fights off the wind and the weather. As a result, you can head off on a tour no matter what the weather is like.

The Performance collection The development of a high-performance line

When LOWA sits down to develop its line of Alpine boots, the company consults with the best professional mountaineers in the German-speaking world. TWO ZONE LACING The shoes fit correctly as a result

Thanks to the two-zone lacing system used in the CADIN II GTX MID, the forefoot and upper have their own separately adjustable lacing zones. As a result, the shoe can be individually adapted to the anatomy of the foot and laced in different ways for ascents and descents.

X-LACING® To ensure that nothing slips …

As a result, the tongue is located where it should be – without any slippage or pressure points: This is what X-LACING® technology of the CADIN II GTX MID is all about. This special lacing system secures the tongue both vertically and horizontally. Because the lacing system gains independence from the height of the instep, the design is perfect for any type of foot. This technology ensures that the pressure of the laces is transferred not just to the hooks but to the tongue as well.

FLEXFIT® Comfort in every step

Feet can roll more effectively if the upper of a hiking boot can be easily bent. Such a feature saves energy when the wearer climbs hills and it provides real comfort in the process. For this reason, LOWA has integrated a flexible zone and a lace loop into this area for the CADIN II GTX MID. This involves repositioning the boot’s eyelets and using a flexible lace hook that improves heel comfort and facilitates bending.

Approx. 80%
Polyurethane (PU)

Polyurethane (PU) is a soft plastic that has very good cushioning properties and is usually used in the midsole as a result. Through the use of PU, the soles become lightweight and functionally flexible.

Approx. 20%
Thermoplastic polyurethane

Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) is like classic polyurethane in many ways. But it differs from it in one special aspect: the process used to produce it. As a result, TPU is more abrasion and slip resistant. It also has a very high degree of kink and tensile strength. Thanks to improved weather resistance, the qualities of a sole made from TPU are more constant even when temperatures fluctuate, an especially important aspect of our leisure-time winter models.

Insole

Approx. 40%
Polyester

Polyester is synthetic plastic fibre made from crude oil. In chemical terms, it is a polymer that can be processed into many different materials. Thanks to its chemical flexibility, polyester is lightweight, dries quickly, does not shrink and has the highest levels of tear and abrasion resistance.

Approx. 50%
Viscoelastic latex foam

Viscoelastic latex foam is made of a remarkable polymer that lends a special form memory to the foam. Once body heat or pressure is applied to the viscoelastic foam, the foam adapts exactly to these particular contours. This feature equally distributes pressure and eases stress on the feet.

Approx. 10%
Mesh

Mesh is a material that consists of many evenly spaced holes. It is usually made of polyester or nylon and basically a lattice-like material that is created by interwoven threads. Thanks to its special design, the man-made fibre is particularly permeable to air, has special moisture-regulating qualities and is easy to care for, breathable and crease-resistant.

Upper material

Approx. 80%
Suede leather

Suede leather comes from the flesh side of the hide. It has a looser fibre structure, a quality that creates a velvety surface and a light pile. Suede leather is particularly durable and open-pored. Depending on the desired look, suede leather can remain untreated or be oiled or waxed.
